west coast, here i come

bye brooklyn

four years passes quickly. new york has been good to me, but it's time to move on. the biting cold (yesterday was the coldest day in two years!), the long waits for the c train that ALWAYS crawls into the canal street station, the ever-present stench of cheap cigars, chicken bones in the street, the sharp edges of barney's and saks bags being swung about mercilessly by stiletto-sidewalk-stomping fashionistas - it's all finally gotten to me.

i'm pussying out.

your gourmet cupcakes, intimate secret rock shows, and meticulously glamorous window dressings can't save me now.

bye brooklyn, i'll miss you.

droog design @ museum of art & design in nyc

i did get yelled at once. sorry nice female security guard! i'm just, um...er...a tourist!

o'death @ sin-e

5 dirty hairy overweight middle-american guys (two shirtless!) clamber on stage and i think, "yeah, definitely not going to like these guys. especially when 4 of the 5 are sitting! how could they possibly be any good?"

30 manic minutes later - i come to the verdict that it's the best live performance i've ever seen. hands down most rocking, cockiest bastards on the scene today.

it's country in the broadest sense. more specifically, psychobilly, havoc rock, mosh prone, with a touch of the southern charm from "o brother where art thou" - but on speed. and crack. and a touch of weed. yup, definitely smelled some weed. there is no good way to describe it. my second-hand thesaurus with missing pages just won't cut it. just check out the vid above or a couple audio snips at myspace or at cdbaby check their tour schedule daily to see if they decide to grace your hometown with their chaos.

leah tinari @ mixed greens nyc

leah taught me some drawing tricks in a continuing education class at parsons a few summers ago. she's super friendly, cute as a button, quite talented, and i can't say she's molded me into an art world darling or anything, but it's worth the trek out to chelsea to see her paintings.
